Nandrolone Decanoate is an anabolic steroid derived from 19-nortestosterone, commonly used in injections. It’s important to note that nandrolone is a chemical precursor to 19-nortestosterone, a metabolite found in urine at low concentrations after intense exercise or during pregnancy.

Structurally, nandrolone differs from testosterone in that it lacks a carbon atom at position 19, giving it progestin-like properties. As a result, nandrolone exhibits significantly lesser effects than testosterone. However, its interaction with progesterone receptors can cause unique side effects.

Unlike testosterone, which converts to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) via the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, nandrolone converts to dihydronandrolone, an extremely weak androgen. This makes it a suitable choice for male athletes with prostate problems.

Nandrolone has a relatively low risk of side effects. Its low androgenic activity means that adverse effects such as acne, baldness, and excessive body hair growth are rare. However, it’s important to note that, like any steroid, these side effects can occur when the recommended doses are significantly exceeded.

Compared to testosterone, nandrolone converts to estrogen approximately six times less (without aromatase). The highest conversion rate occurs in the liver, while the primary site of conversion, adipose tissue, remains less accessible to this process. Consequently, nandrolone has minimal estrogenic side effects such as gynecomastia or water retention. Estrogenic activity is only observed at very high doses.
