Mesterolone is an androgenic steroid with mild anabolic and moderate androgenic activity. It is commonly used in bodybuilding during anabolic steroid cycles to address various issues.

Proviron, or mesterolone, increases androgen levels by binding to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), improving the effectiveness of the cycle. However, unlike tamoxifen, mesterolone does not contribute to the restoration of testosterone secretion.

Indeed, due to its high affinity for plasma binding proteins such as SHBG, mesterolone can enhance the activity of other steroids by displacing a greater percentage of them into a free, unbound state. Among athletes, mesterolone is primarily used to increase androgen levels during dieting or competition preparation. It also functions as an antiestrogen by antagonizing the aromatase enzyme.

Mesterolone is known to increase libido and erections with minimal suppression of testosterone levels. It is often used by athletes during post-cycle therapy (PCT) or in cases of Expectancy of Failure Syndrome (EFS) to improve sexual performance and increase libido with few side effects.

If mesterolone use causes priapism (a prolonged and painful erection), the dose should be reduced or discontinued. Mesterolone is not converted to estrogen in the body and has no significant estrogenic effects. Therefore, it is not necessary to use an anti-estrogen, as it is unlikely to cause gynecomastia, water retention, or other estrogen-related side effects.

Mesterolone is believed to act as an antiaromatase inhibitor, inhibiting or slowing the conversion of steroids into estrogen. Although less pronounced, this effect is somewhat comparable to that of anastrozole.

Studies have shown that when taken in moderate doses (150 mg per day or less), Mesterolone has a minimal suppressive effect on gonadotropin and serum testosterone levels.

How to Use

For androgen insufficiency, mesterolone is generally prescribed in an initial dose of 1 tablet (25 mg) two or three times daily. The dose is subsequently reduced to a maintenance dose of 1 tablet (25 mg) once or twice daily.

For male athletes, the usual dosage ranges between 50 mg and 150 mg of mesterolone per day, equivalent to two to six 25 mg tablets. The drug is typically used in cycles lasting 6 to 12 weeks, allowing sufficient time to observe the benefits of the therapy.

To improve sperm quality and quantity, a dose of 25-50 mg per day is recommended. Mesterolone compensates for the lack of androgen production, stimulates the development of male genitalia and secondary sexual characteristics, improves libido and potency, has anabolic properties, and promotes erythropoiesis.
